About this task
Assessment Task 1: Written questions
You must correctly answer all 11 questions to show that you understand the knowledge required of the units in this cluster.
Assessment Task 2: Research report
You are to complete research on a topic that is developing in the community services industry.
Assessment Task 11: Workplace project – seek and share feedback-Task 1
There are two parts to this task: Part A: You are to obtain feedback from two clients. Part B: You are to share and seek feedback with your work placement supervisor and peers.
Assessment Task 11: Project – personal development plan-Task 2
You are required to develop a personal development plan using the feedback you received in Assessment Task 11.
How to submit your assessments
When you have completed each assessment task you will need to submit it to your assessor.
Instructions about submission can be found at the beginning of each assessment task.
Assessment Task Cover Sheet
At the beginning of each task in this booklet, you will find an Assessment Task Cover Sheet. Please fill it in for each task, making sure you sign the student declaration.
Your assessor will give you feedback about how well you went in each task, and will write this on moodle online and on the Assessment Task Cover Sheet.
Make sure you photocopy your written activities before you submit them – your assessor will put the documents you submit into your student file. These will not be returned to you.

Grading conditions
A student’s assessment is graded as satisfactory (S) when they answer all questions correctly. If a student’s answer is incorrect or a question is left unanswered, the assessment is marked as not yet satisfactory (NYS). The trainer will then provide feedback and further support to student, after which the student will resubmit the incorrect/unanswered question(s). If the answer(s) is/are correct, the assessment is deemed satisfactory.
Re-Assessment Process
When a student is not yet satisfactory after the first submission of assessments, they will be given two more opportunities to resubmit the assessment. If a student is still deemed not yet satisfactory then they will move through the JTI Student at Risk Management Procedure as specified in the student information handbook.
Reasonable Adjustment
An adjustment is any measure or action that a student requires because of their disability, and which has the effect of assisting the student to access and participate in education and training on the same basis as students without a disability. An adjustment is reasonable if it achieves this purpose while taking into account factors such as the nature of the student’s disability, the views of the student, the potential effect of the adjustment on the student and others who might be affected, and the costs and benefits of making the adjustment.
JTI applies the following methods of reasonable adjustment:
• Study support and study skills programs
• Equipment, resources and/or programs to increase access for learners with disabilities
• Flexible scheduling and delivery of training and assessment
• Information technology (IT) support
• Learning materials in alternative formats, for example, in large print
If the trainer determines that the student cannot cope with the demand of the course, the trainer should explain this to the student and refer the student to English classes or other support as per the JTI student support policy.

Consider the following situation:
Jed was not sure where he was going in life. He went to TAFE when he finished school and started a course to qualify as a chef. When he was halfway through his course he realised that the hours for a chef were quite bad, so he withdrew. Jed travelled for six months but his money soon ran out – he came home earlier than expected. When he got home, he went to art school with a friend of his – that didn’t last as he wasn’t that good at art. Now he is considering enrolling in an entry-level community services qualification. Jed likes to help people and he feels he has a natural empathy for people and a big heart. He hopes that if he enrols he will be able to stick with it. All his friends have good jobs now and Jed feels that he is still in the same place he was when he first left school.
Imagine you are Jed’s friend. Give him some advice so he can plan and focus on his goals.

Jamilla, a community services worker, is transporting three young people with intellectual disabilities to a lifestyle support program. When the worker gets into the car, she asks her clients to put on their seatbelts before she starts off on her journey. A kangaroo jumps in front of the car and the worker slams on the brakes. There must be a gas leak in here somewhere’. The receptionist, Mara, replies, ‘Yes, I smelled it when I came in this morning and all the clients have been complaining. It’s lucky you came in – can you fix it?’ Rashad is shocked at Mara’s lack of action. ‘Why didn’t you report it straight away? It could have been dangerous!’ ‘That’s not my responsibility’, Mara replies. ‘You are the safety officer, not me – I’m just responsible for reception.’

I do not agree with Mara, because everyone should be cautious in the event of a fear that it should be his department or not.
Alloise works in juvenile justice. She gets on with the young offenders well and prides herself on being able to relate to young people. Often when the young people get to the end of their sentence they are at high risk or reoffending. They frequently have nowhere permanent to live and have trouble getting a job. Alloise offers one particular client a room at her house after his release. The client reminds her a lot of her brother, who died of a heroin overdose when he was 17. She wants to continue working with the client and to help him to get a job so he can become a valued member of the community.

You are working in community services and a client who has been smoking ice comes into the waiting room demanding that you give him immediate assistance. The client is aggressive, extremely agitated and clearly needs some help – however, there are people who have appointments who are already waiting. You explain that you will get someone to come and help him as soon as possible but in the meantime he should sit down, calm down and wait his turn. The client’s behaviour escalates to the stage where you think you may be assaulted. You hit the duress alarm and other staff come to help.
