Podcast creation & Critical reflection
For part of your Media portfolio you will have to complete a 15 minute audio Podcast as well as a 1000 word critical reflection.
A podcast is an interesting way of telling a story and engaging directly with your audience. Podcast’s come in the form of both video and audio, however for this assessment we would like to concentrate on delivering your narrative using audio only.
You will attend three workshops to help prepare you for the assessment. These will focus on Podcast production, sound editing, presenting, Storytelling techniques, interviewing techniques, storyboarding, Broadcasting rules, pre-production, production and post-production and looking at the importance of sound design. Sound plays a major part in telling a narrative, and unlike TV, Podcast’s are all about what we can hear and not what we can see.
Podcasts should be no more than 15 minutes. All content has to demonstrate good and original idea’s, displaying thorough investigative research, creative storytelling, a variety of interviewees and excellent sound editing. You will also be assessed on your technical ability, so it’s important that you attend all of your technical workshops.
‘Notes to students’
 You will need to create a Soundcloud account and upload your individual packages to these accounts – and then submit the URL to your work into the assignment box on mybeckett.
Audio files should be exported as WAV files.

Critical reflection
After submitting your Podcast, you will need to submit a 1000 word reflection, reflecting on your progress made with specific reference to your work. Explain if you encountered any issues when searching for topics, interviewing and editing. This should a) say what you did b) explain what you thought the strengths and weaknesses were c) talk about what problems you solved and d) tell us what you learned.
-You must evaluate your learning experience and demonstrate you have conducted independent research into your chosen topic, and applied theory to industry standard practices.
