Examines contemporary issues facing talent and culture management within hospitality. In the
context of the hotel industry, students will explore elements including talent and culture
strategy, end-to-end workforce planning, talent acquisition and retention, and employer of
choice.

Assessment 1 – Case Study
Why this assessment
Tis assessment is designed to get you to research and critically analyse an organisation’s
strategic approach to managing their workforce, considering internal and external factors.
You will choose one (1) of the following articles as the basis for your report. Further research
is then required to identify the potential causes that have led to this situation using the
PESTLE model. Your research should include recent industry and academic sources such as
contemporary issues in hospitality, to locate evidence and examples of cause to then provide
discussion of the resulting article. Recommendations are then to be made in the form of advice
to other hospitality businesses to avoid a similar situation.

2. Body (1000 words) – using the PESTLE model, this section should introduce, describe and
explain the key issues using a sub-heading for each issue.

global tourism into the future.
4. Recommendations – consider what similar organisations should do to avoid or mitigate
their business facing a similar situation.

Tis assessment is designed to get you researching and thinking critically about contemporary
issues in Talent & Culture in a hospitality and tourism context and prepare for a verbal report
in the style of an interview for a role in a Talent & Culture entry-level role.
Te assessment is a job interview simulation for the following job role:
Te Rest Up Group is a leading provider of hotel services in Sydney & Melbourne. We are preparing to
expand signifcantly over the next 12 months and so we are currently seeking applications from suitably
experienced individuals for the role Talent & Culture Advisor.
Tis role will directly support the T&C Director to lead a workforce planning project to open new ofces in
every capital city in Australia.
Responsibilities and activities include but are not limited to:
• Assist Operations to develop workforce plans for each capital city
• Advise managers on recruitment & selection strategies
• Develop appropriate training and retention strategies.
Te successful candidate will play a pivotal role in achieving the Rest Up Group’s organisational objectives.
1. Students will be required to show their knowledge and understanding of current Talent &
Culture topics in a one-on-one interview with their tutor.
2. In a ffeen (15) minute interview, you will be asked questions relating to only one (1) of
the following HR areas:
• Manpower planning
• Talent Acquisition
• Talent Development & Retention.
1. You will be asked to talk about only one (1) of these areas in the interview, for
approximately 10 minutes.
2. You will then be asked questions, in the style of a job interview, on one (1) of the above
topics (as chosen by the interviewer at the time of the assessment).
1. To prepare for the interview, you should write a background fact sheet for each of the
topics. Te recommended length of each fact sheet is one page.
2. Your background fact sheet can be written in a report style with headings and bullet
points.
3. Remember to use correct in-text citations and Harvard Style Referencing.
4. Tese background fact sheets should be saved as one document, with a reference list at the
end and submitted through Turnitin either on or before the due date.
5. Your background fact sheets must also be handed in as a hard copy to the interviewer at
the time of the assessment.
6. Te interview is a compulsory assessment. You cannot pass this unit without attending

Tis assessment is designed to get you researching and considering the approach required to
improve the culture in your workplace relating to key issues in hospitality and tourism.
You will choose one (1) of the following government initiatives as the basis for your
workplace campaign:
• Workplace Bullying
• Say no to drugs & alcohol
• Slips and trips.
Considering your target audience you are required to develop the following promotional
and training materials that can be used in a new employee orientation.
• A poster – promoting the initiative, providing basic information, a call to action and where
the employee can seek further information.
• A fact sheet – providing details about the initiative such as: why is it important, what is the
role of the employer, what is the role of the new employee, how it contributes to the
company’s success.
• A 3-minute video – stating the overall stance of the organisation e.g. “Zero Tolerance” and
the key points a new employee should be aware of.
• Te poster should be A3 in size
• Te fact sheet should be A4 and designed as a handout (consider folded designs)
• Te video must have your voice included in the audio
• Te video can be animated
