ASSESSMENT 2: Students will submit a 3000-word essay. This form of assessment counts for 80% of the overall mark. The submission deadline is Tuesday 4 May 2021, 11am
Essay title: “Critically explain the causes of the Eurozone crisis. To what extent, and how, are they connected to the global financial crisis of 2007-08” [Answer by taking into account the various debates on the crisis of the Eurozone and what has the EU done to stop it. Discuss the ordoliberal Treaties of the EU and show how the banking sectors of the EU and the USA/UK were connected whereas the ordoliberal Treaties failed to prevent the crisis]
Students are expected to discuss 15-20 sources, which must include books and journal articles that are dealing with the theme of globalization/financialization and European integration. It would be ideal if students can discuss primary sources, such as the Fiscal Compact Treaty of the EU or its European Semester procedure, both introduced in order to heal the banking and debt crises. The essay must have a beginning (Introduction: explaining what you do, how you do it and what is the main thesis/argument), a middle (the main body of the essay in which the analysis and the discussion of sources will happen) and an end (Conclusion: summarising the thesis/findings of your essay). The assessments will be essential for you to receive feedback and to see how well you are grasping the material that is being covered in the module. It is essential that you ALL participate in these assessments.
