1.1 Background of the research
The Covid-19 pandemic has spread rapidly all across the globe and forced every human to maintain social distancing. The impact of the pandemic can be seen in every sector and has significantly disrupted the education sector as well. The education sector plays an important role in shaping a country’s economic future. The paper sheds light on the impact of Covid-19 disease on the education sector of Ireland. Based on the UN report, approximately 190 countries closed all the schools and universities that gradually impacted the education of more than 1.5 billion children and young ones. However, both students and educators were likely to adopt the learning from the home technique. Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO stated during the pandemic that the UN will continuously adopt to work with countries i9n order to support the learning of all which tends to be hit by university closure. Furthermore, college students are extremely affected by the pandemic and a lot of trouble has occurred for the international students including the students of Ireland. Ireland is one of the developed countries that had made an investment of €11.1 billion in the education system. But due to the change in the education learning system, the impact of the epidemic can largely impact the future of Ireland (UnitedNations, 2020).
The national representative body for the parents of young ones in Ireland has surveyed to gather information related to the views and opinions on the impact of a pandemic on education. The participants covered during the survey were 4300 parents of both junior and senior students. The responses received from the survey states that virtual learning is gradually taking a place of home education. More than 94% of the students are likely to use both books and digital tools to carry on their education and 79% of the students accept that no difficulties are being faced during online classes. Although, the educational system after the Coivd-19 pandemic has its advantages and disadvantages in Ireland (Williams, 2020). The schools in Ireland are adapting the technique of distributing work through PowerPoint’s that can be easily accessed by the parent on the school website. The main purpose was to support children during the difficult time as this was challenging for the educators as well to deliver proper education using digital tools.
Most of the students adopted digital technology for the learning process and approximately 38% of the students in Ireland were accustomed is using tablet devices, mobile phones and PCs in daily school lives. But still, these technological advancements cannot be considered universal because there are problems for rural areas. The students in rural areas stated that they were facing trouble with Wi-Fi services and also the students who were new in adopting online learning were facing problems. Hayley McLoughlin, the professor in the secondary school of Ireland highlighted concerns associated with the virtual learning system where he stated that the jobs of professors and teachers have changed immensely where teachers would perform actively and be around the student all day long to hiding behind the screen is extremely different (Garcia and Weiss, 2020). The teachers found that sometimes digital learning seems useless when students cannot have access to the internet or falling behind as they are struggling to learn new topics using digital devices. Integration of new technology with the education system may improve the interaction between the educator and students and also provide more possibilities for both if used properly. This allows students to take advantage of online learning such as 24-hour resources, self-directed study, flexible choices, tracked progress, familiarity with technology, recorded lectures, and continuous learning even during the lockdown (Dwivedi et al., 2020). On the other side, the negative influences cover the major issues related to poor network connectivity and lack of access to technology. It is agreeable that pandemic has pushed the whole education system to the next level but this also requires access to software, the internet and computers that play an important role in pushing and pausing the whole education of a young one (Mekonnen, 2020). Some of the negative aspects of online learning include loss of opportunity to return to educational institutions and health-related issues. However, both these aspects will be studied in detail. The paper will talk about the measures taken by the government to support students during the pandemic, along with the positive and negative impacts on the education system.
1.2 Rationale of study
Ireland is one of the developed countries that spends a good amount of money to shape its educational system. A total investment of €11.1 billion has been made by Ireland in the year 2020 but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, being the most highlighted topic from the past year has gradually changed the entire education system that can also impact the future of the country. Also, the education sector has been highly affected by the pandemic that took the system to a new level and changed the entire pattern of learning for the students (Marinoni et al., 2020). Therefore, it becomes important to understand the various impact of a pandemic on the educational system and learning process of students and the way they are adopting the new learning techniques.
The area of the study aims the present the impact of a pandemic on the education system of Ireland. The aptness of the research is to highlight the different ways of using technology for educational purposes, positive and negative impact on the education system and the transformed learning process for the students. This also covers the teaching experience of professors and students and their opinions related to online learning. The rationale of the study is to search for the factors that have changed the entire educational system and also its impact. Evidence-based research on the educational system during the pandemic in Ireland has been discussed. Proper information has been gathered to gain a wider perspective on the research theme.
1.3 Problem Statement
The research paper seeks to efficiently identify the major impact of Covid-19 on the educational system of Ireland. In addition to this, the emphasis has been laid on the positive and negative factors of online learning on the students and the way they are likely to adopt the new learning process. It can be observed that the research mainly focuses on the impact of covid-19 in the education system and most of the secondary research can be found on this topic but very less focus has been laid on the strategies adopted by the government to overcome the issues in the educational sector and the way they supported schools and universities to continue providing online classes and issues related to fee payment (Burgess and Sievertsen, 2020). Also, there is very little study on the creative strategies to be adopted by Ireland to ensure that all students have sustainable access to learning during the pandemic Covid-19. Quick access to technology and the internet is the major requirement for every student. Therefore, digital capabilities need to be improved to ensure that poor students can continue their education on the digital platform. The need for safe learning space, teaching plans for disabled children and creating capabilities to operate and navigate digital devices are required to be addressed by the government, schools and Universities.

1.5 Thesis Structure
The dissertation is divided into five chapters:
Chapter 1: Introduction: This chapter of the research paper will include research background, problem statement, the rationale of the study, research aim, objectives and questions, significance and justification on the research topic, i.e., impact of Coivd-19 on the education system of Ireland.
Chapter 2: Literature Review: In this chapter, several academic journals, books and websites will be evaluated related to the research topic to gain a wider perspective on the research questions and gaining answers for the same.
Chapter 3: Research Methodology: The chapter deals with the methods used for conducting the research process to meet the aim and objective of the research. The paper mixed data collection method along with Qualitative data analysis method.
Chapter 4: Data Findings and Analysis: This chapter will bring out all the findings to show the results derived from the data collection process and data analysis methods.
Chapter 5: Conclusion and Recommendations: In this chapter, the conclusion will be prepared based on the literature review and findings including the overall understanding of the research topic and data derived from different sources. This will also cover recommendations that can help to support the new educational system of Ireland.
