Health needs of primary school student
The students of the primary school must be taken care of
their health so that they can lead their lives with full
The health needs are important to allow them to go to school
daily without being affected by infectious diseases like the
coughs, colds, diarrhoea, allergies and fever.
The students are considered to be the future of the schools
and they often get hurt during playing, falling from the stairs
and other external injuries. Thus it is necessary to determine
the health needs of the primary school students as most of the
schools of Gujarat lack an adequate first aid treatment.
Securing services on a limited budget
The services that were provided by the primary
schools were constrained to a limited budget.
The training of the first aid personnel, the
introduction of the training courses by the teachers
for the primary students, the first aid kit, the
ambulance service in case of an extreme emergency
and the conductance of the monthly health program
all came at a relatively moderate and limited budget
of around one lakh Indian rupees.
Planning of services to meet the needs
•1. The authorities from the Health and Safety Commission
visited the primary schools in Gujarat to take their
permission to appoint a person when some children get ill
or injured.
•2. The trainers took training regarding first aid that did not
require HSE approval.
•3. Then the proper pieces of equipment of the first aid that
included the first-aid container kit had been arranged for
those schools. The first aid kit consisted of the bandages,
scissors, antiseptic lotions and creams, gloves and cotton.
After that, qualified first aid personnel had been appointed.
•4. When the first aid was provided for the students of
primary school, the schools had ensured that the provision
for the students does not fall below the required standard
(Power et al. 2017).
•The provision for those students had to comply with other
relevant guidance and legislation. Notice of first aid in the
staff rooms was displayed to keep informed the staffs.
•5. Then a first aid handbook was delivered to the staffs.
The fatal injuries and the dangerous occurrences were to be
notified to the HSE through telephone provided in the
notice. Besides, proper reviewing of the needs of the first
aid was being made by the head of the school.
Monitoring the services procured
The monitoring started with the formation of the
monitoring teams after officials from the HSE visited
the schools to collect the first aid data.
The SMART objectives were delivered to them and
the review indicators were being provided to them.
Then the team developed the monitoring plan that was
guided by objectives.
The plan contained the primary first aid project to
monitor the objectives. The monitoring team matched
the user friendly and structured tools with the data
collectors, information and the environment.
Finally, the team monitored and submitted the report
that contained the adequate presence of the first aid
kits and the number of fit and sick students, besides
the services of the first aid personnel (Salway et al.
