1 Abstract
The age of ours is the age of science and technology. It is the greatest gift of
God to humans which has made their lives easy. Technology has impacted the
way of living and has given man something which is much more useful. Indeed,technology has rendered life comfortable and worth living. Many tasks
which would take days and weeks can now be performed within hours and
minutes using modern technology. Moreover, many complex and analytical
processes can be done with great precision and without any errors through
technology. Plenty of achievements have been made by technology which
have become indispensable for our day-to-day existence. Education system
is greatly influenced by modern technology. It has paved ways for teachers
to teach in more efficient way, and also for students to gain that knowledge
by use of computers and wireless technology. This process of teaching and
learning is made for more interesting than before through modern technology.
2 Introduction
21st century is regarded as the era of modern technology. It is impossible to
exaggerate the importance of technology in today’s modern world. The base
of strong and stable economy is technology. Now-a-days, economical growth
and stable state need modern and advanced technology. Because technology
minimizes the time consumption and makes work easy. Almost every field of
life involves technology, one of them is Education.
3 Modern technology in education
According to recent observations made about the preferences of students in
the use of modern technology for their studies, and the influence of modern
technology on their learning, shows that modern technology is more engaging
and help students learn better. They get involved and interested more in
studies when exposed to variety of options provided by technology. Students
become able to gain knowledge more efficiently and easily. This proves that
modern technology boosts our minds and hence make our tasks unchallenging
in almost every field of life apart from education. Modern technology frees
our minds from superstitions and gives us both physical and mental benefits
that is why humans are dependent on technology and it unable to ignore it
especially in educational institutes like schools, colleges and universities.
4 Factors affecting technology in education
I.Jung points towards the extensive challenges faced by teachers in society as
the knowledge spread rapidly. The use of modern technologies first need to
be learned in proper way by teachers in order to teach through it. Gressard
and Loyd (1985) stated that the teacher’s proper understanding of computers
plays a major role in successful accomplishment of ICT in education. They
directed towards the lack of interest of teachers in the use of modern technology which ultimately leads to many issues related to projects which are
computer- based. Following are some of the most commonly barriers faced
by teachers:
1. Lack of time.
2. Lack of access.
3. Lack of resources.
4. Lack of expertise.
5. Lack of support.
5 Impact of ICT on education
Keeping in view all other factors of modern education, ICT is one of the
most important factor in exploring paths to access education and enhance
its relevancy and quality. Tinio (2002) pointed out that modern information
communication technology has drastically affected the student’s and teacher’s
way of acquiring and imparting knowledge in educational institutions. He
stated some of the points which explains the effect of technology on education.
5.1 Active learning
ICT has variety of functions and options which helps in computerizing the
information related to examinations, hence it is then easy to inquire the student’s performance through computerized reports. The information gained
from examinations can be calculated and analyzed easily through automatic
processing of data by ICT. Moreover, ICT is in favour of conceptual learning
where the student shows more interest and work according to his/her own
choice rather than continuous learning and memorization, which leads to the
solution of real life circumstances and issues.
5.2 Collaborative and cooperative learning
ICT has reduced the distances between teachers and students and make them
more interactive and friendly. Through ICT students from different parts of
the world connect with each other who belong to different cultures and work
together which not only help them to improve their communication skills but
also expands their knowledge about global issues and awareness. Researchers
have commonly found that ICT introduce learners to more people apart
from school only and also help learners to establish a good cooperative and
friendly relation. Furthermore, teachers and students interaction is greatly
appreciated by ICT (Gregoire et al., 1996).

5.3 Creative learning
ICT is the key factor in utilization of already existing information and helps
to discover own ideas which are implemented in real life to achieve useful

In traditional classrooms only a specific aspect of education is focused either
theory or practice. But ICT focuses on the collective approach of teaching
and learning, and eradicates the stimulated gap, and emphasize on both
theory and practice.
5.5 Evaluative learning
ICT is favoured by students in terms of learning and shows excellent response
through variety of engaging features. ICT help students discover new ways of
learning and teaching and deny them from the conventional method of learning and memorization. In addition, ICT support the constructivist theories
which make students more practical and conceptual.
6 Advantages
Modern technology has greatly influenced the world. It has enormous advantages. Students are more likely to learn rather than traditional classes.
It help students to manage their studies more easily and work without any
bounds at home as per their on choice. Moreover, thorough modern technology students learn new skills and techniques which can be useful in their
practical field. It has also contributed in the concept of “Green Revolution”
by reducing the usage of paper and avoiding photocopies.
7 Disadvantages
As every thing has its pros and cons, so is technology. It has some disadvantages like experts and experienced people agree that modern technology is
negatively affecting students by reducing their thinking ability and imaginations. As per some tutors, technology is time consuming. Also it is expensive
and cannot be afforded by everyone. Furthermore, immense use of technology
can result in health related issues.
8 Conclusion
From the above discussion it is concluded that technology has both good
and bad effects on education. Keeping in view all the negative and positive
aspects of technology, students and teachers should make full use of it by over
coming its negative impacts. By doing so the academic institutions will be
able to spread knowledge in best possible way and reach excellence. In today’s
world, every country should strive to technologically equip educational sector
with latest apparatus and equipments.
